Joanna Rusinek

In 'Samotny Jędruś'pub 2011 by Joanna Rusinek,  is a story about loneliness, using a manhole cover and chalk as the main character, who bares a strong resemblance to Little Red Riding Hood. This is a wonderfully creative, rich mixed media visual book using Joanna's collection of photographs of details of street features. 

Malgorzata Gurowska

Polish graphic designer Malgorzata Gurowska works mainly in red, black and white, making startling, bold, graphic imagery. This image was the winner of the 2017 Cultural Poster Award at the Bienal del Cartel Bolivia BICeBé 2017.

Clotilde Perrin

Clotilde Perrin makes exquisit pencil rendered illustrations rich in content. This is her bookworm wolf from the book; 'Inside the bad guys'. which has wonderful illustrations exposed by opening the flaps, revealing the true diabolical horror of the villains who populate children's books.

Sandra Rilova I

New York based illustrator Sandra Rilova has created a red riding hood simplified to a stamped triangle (with little details added).

Ryn Frank

Ryn Frank, Ryn's style has become more pared down, graphic and stylised in the last few years and is very beautiful. This wolf is an illustration for 'the bloody chamber' by Angela Carter from a few years ago, and is a different style altogether  with great layering of imagery and text.

Hana Akiyama

Hana Akiyama's interpretation of little Red Riding Hood, is quite disturbing in that the images are very full and worked compared to Hana's usual pared down simplicity and spaciousness. The wolf is also very large and patchworked more like an old worn mother than a threatening wild animal.

Matthew Cordell

With a clear visual homage to Little Red Riding Hood, these illustrations are from Matthew Cordell's 'Wolf In The Snow' which was published earlier this year, a project that started with the picture above. Matthews research for this book about a little girl and a wolf cub who both get lost in the snow took him on a journey of wonder and knowledge including the amazing Yellowstone Wolf Project and a complete rediscovery and understanding of wolves. 

This silent book has won the Boston Globe-Horn Book award 2017 and is nominated for many other awards.
