Linda Bleck

Linda Bleck has just completed a 100-day art challenge, many of the images she produced were of an insect themed, Little Red Riding Hood.

"I had great fun with this series of Little Red Riding Bug. All the illustrations were done in a single sketchbook, with one brush and two colors. Limited palettes are also a great way to experiment with light and shadow." Linda Bleck

Lisa Congdon II

Love this bold 'Go For It' by Lisa Congdon. I love the idea of little Red being carried in the mouth of the wolf.

Big Red Wolf

Little red and a giant red wolf, the wolf in the world seems to be growing much too large recently, politically and environmentally, I hope we can get him to shrink back to a manageable size soon.

Firebrand

I spent much of the weekend thinking about the disastrous forest fires in Siberia and the Amazon, many of which were purposefully started. This is a red riding hood styled response, called firebrand, the forest s red riding hood the wolf is capitalism.

Oleg Zotov

Oleg Konstantinovich Zotov's (1928-1984) 'The Girl and the Fox' fairytale has many of the same visual references of little Red Riding Hood, with its delightful delicate illustrations of nature

Wolf Fascism, Wolf Populism . . . big bad wolf.

I was thinking today on the wolf that is threatening; the fascist, the popularist, I thought of its smile of sharpened teeth. The wolf and little red are the iconography that comes to me when I am dealing with evil and stress, the ageless struggle between good and evil.

William W Denslow

W.W. Denslow's 1903 version of Little Red Riding Hood. In this version, the grandmother comes and beats the wolf and then red Ridinghood teaches him good manners.  I love the colour palette of this version and the blocks of red.

William Wallace Denslow (1856-1915) was an illustrator and cartoonist, famous for his illustrations of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He seems to have been a very argumentative man, he was divorced three times and also fell out with Baum over the royalties for the stage production of The Wizard of Oz for which he designed the sets and costumes.
The royalties from the print and stage versions of The Wizard of Oz were sufficient to allow Denslow to purchase Bluck's Island, Bermuda and crown himself King Denslow I.
