Midori Takaki

Midori Takaki is a Japanese ceramicist who builds stories around the circumference of the face, and in this way reveals the character.

"I capture the floating thoughts in ceramics. Once they were given shapes, they become grounded. I create something small almost daily at night. I call them my journal. I am writing in ceramics. By doing that, I file the information, which is, otherwise, difficult to classify, in drawers in my brain. I could bring every nuance and detail of my memories, stories, emotion and thoughts, back to life vividly when I see each sculpture."

Never Mind Granny

I am away for a week to the Bologna Children's Illustration Festival and I am going to take a week off from most of my blogs. I am leaving this one with a 2012 illustration called 'Never mind granny give the wolves the tarts' or 'Wait'. the wolves have all got tarts balanced on their noses waiting for Little Red to give them permission to eat them. Have a good week.

"This piece was inspired by the story, “In the Company of Wolves” by Angela Carter. If you haven’t read it, it is by far my favorite re-inventing of the little red riding hood story." Kelsey King
Kelsey King often has wolves present in her illustrations, they are an almost omnipresent symbol of the wild and nature in her work. Kelsey King graduated in illustration from Minneapolis and studied for 6 months in Brighton.
