Vânia Mignone

This definitely counts as a 'wolfish thing' post, but the violence of the red and the 'tail' of the tree crown in this painting by Vânia Mignone could only be a LRRH image to me, extremely bold and unsettling.

Mariana Malhão

Mariana Malhão is a Portuguese illustrator whose work shows the influence of Japanese animation  and European classics such as Tove Jansson. Little red is the blood in Mariana's version and is the life as well as a force of darkness in her images.

Adres, Lisbon

I was amazed this week, having blogged about it over a year ago,  to stumble upon an Adres; 'little red riding hood in person', at the LX Factory in Lisbon, Portugal.

It is lovely to be sent Red riding Hood images now and this one was sent to me yesterday.

Marta Torrão

Fig 1 (above) Marta Torrao's Pouco Vermelho
Portuguese illustrator Marta Torrão's work has wonderful 'blowing bubbles' shapes and integrates fine pattern and drawing into her painted illustrations so they manage to be both bold and delicate at the same time.

Mariana Malhão

Fig 1,2,3 (above) Mariana Malhão, Little Red Riding Hood

Portuguese Mariana Malhão illustrations remind me of Tove Jansson's Moomin illustration with their mix of sharp characters and elements mixed and overlayed with more amorphous soft shapes. Mariana has used collage paint and digital media to produce this project.

Ricardo Jorge

Fig 1,2 (above) Ricardo Jorge 2014, Red Riding Hood.
"My Red Riding Hood is not so innocent and doesn't have a fear/victim relationship with the wolf. In the end I just want everybody to get along. So my wolf is not bad, my granny did disappears but for another reason, and the hunter...well...its not hunting season. I  drew it in black ink and finished it in Photoshop. My idea was to have a darker illustration, a horror environment where the story is not a dark one but a friendly gathering of the characters." Ricardo Jorge
Ricardo Jorge is a Portuguese illustrator who graduated from the University of Lisbon.
